Idukki Dam

Idukki Dam

Idukki Dam is one of the most iconic landmarks of Idukki district, Kerala, renowned as one of the largest arch dams in Asia. Built across the Periyar River between the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, the dam is a major part of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project and plays a crucial role in power generation for the state.

Constructed with a double-curvature concrete arch design, the dam stands majestically amid steep rocky hills, creating a breathtaking sight. The reservoir formed by the dam, along with the Cheruthoni and Kulamavu dams, helps regulate water flow and supports hydroelectric power production.

Surrounded by dense forests and scenic landscapes, Idukki Dam is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the reservoir and the surrounding hills, making it a symbol of engineering excellence and natural beauty in Kerala.
